Potential Graphic Issue
Hi All,
(Sorry, I'm not sure if I've missed a post on this topic...but...)
Tonight I clicked on my Guild Wars desktop shortcut to download more new files for this weekend's beta.
After several files downloaded to my computer, I got a curious message.
The message informed me that my graphics are not compatible with Guild Wars.
I've played the last two beta weekends with no problems.
Why now, are my graphics not compatible?
I have a Dell 2350, with onboard Intel Extreme Graphics.
Have any of you gotten the same message?
Thoughts?
Thanks,
TuffBabe

In the Technician's Corner there are lots of references to the limitations of Intel Extreme graphics. I don't think your older integrated graphics meet the minimum system requirements posted on the GW pre-order box (~ATI Radeon 8500, GeForce 3 or 4MX w 32 MB VRAM). Maybe you can still play the game and the error message was a one-time thing. Maybe they tweaked the game graphics though and you're out of luck. Buying a new video card may be the solution if the error message persists.

I say you update for the hell of it. I used to have an integrated graphics card, and after I upgraded... I was in bliss. Don't toture yourself, go get a video card

the lowest i could find on the dell site was the 2400 model with 64 mb shared memory
questions
how much memory does your pc have?
what speed is it ( 200, 233 etc)
http://www.sisoftware.net/?location=update
will give all info needed
besides sharing memory your video is using very slow system ram instead of fast video ram that is used on video cards

I have a Pentium 4 with 2 GHz and 768 MB of RAM.
I just uninstalled the old drivers, and installed the latest ones.
Additional info:
One year ago I bought a Radeon 9200 vid card. It worked in my computer for 6 weeks, then quit working.
In spite of trouble shooting (for hours and hours and HOURS ) the pc does not see the card. (And therefore, I can not install drivers for it, etc.)
Thanks everyone for your expertise and suggestions.
I think at this point, only time will tell as to whether or not I can now run Gw.
Moreover, I wonder (hope) if I just hit a one time system requirement check that has recently been added to the game's software.
Lastly:
I understand that onboard graphics are not meant for gaming. But, the pc that I have, is the pc that I have...at least for now ;o)

Tuffbabe....I am going to assume you tried everything to get the system to see your ATI card.....but anyway did you turn off your on-board gpu in the BIOS? Also maybe the card wasnt seated properly in the slot....I am surprised that it wasnt recognized when installed. Perhaps you tried to force the recoginition? Y'know disable the on-board graphics in Control Panel and then re-boot.
Of course it could be that the card suffered some sort of power spike or other damage and is actually not operating

Hi again, All,
Believe me, we did EVERYTHING, several times. BIOS, disable onboard graphics, and etc.
A friend tried the card in two of his home build pcs and it's working properly.
I tried the card in my brother's (newer) Dell, and we get the same problem. His Dell does not "see" the card either.
In spite of the fact that my Dell is still under warranty, Dell Support will not send out a tech since I didn't by the card (for an inflated price) from them. They're considering it a "third party card", and say they are therefor not responsible for it.
I find that odd, since systems today are build in such a way that users can easily get inside of them to add upgrades. (Not like 10 years ago, when we couldn't even get into our computers since they were sealed shut so tightly!)
Everything is standard. It should all work!
It's a complete mystery.
Why did the card work in my computer for 6 weeks, and then just stop working?!
Anyway, thanks again for all of your suggestions. I appreciate your interest.
TuffBabe

well i suggest going to www.newegg.com and looking in the video cards section, they have GREAT prices, and delivery is always on time, but yeah, sounds like you need a new comp, period.
Dell sucks, plain and simple =/ i built my comp and it rawks, in the future im thinking about getting a new mobo and cpu, but for now what i have is great, and got the ram from newegg, works like a dream
system specs:
vid card- nvidia geforce 5500FX 256mb
AMD Athlon 2700+ @2.25 (love overclocking )
1 gig of ram
soundMAX digital audio
try checking wal mart too, my vid card was only like 149 and works great.
